James Mark is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and holds a Master of Music degree from the Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Conn. as well as a Doctorate from the University of Michigan. He also attended the Royal College of Music in London, England, where he was awarded the Arthur Somervell Prize for Wind Instruments in 1962 and 1963. Dr. Mark has been a member of the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. and has taught music at the high school level in Massachusetts. Presently Dr. Mark is a Professor of Music at Mount Allison University, where he teaches Clarinet and Saxophone, Music Education, and Conducting. He also conducts the Mount Allison Symphonic Band. In 1994 Dr. Mark was appointed Conductor of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra and has been named Conductor of the Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Mark is also a frequently heard performer in the Atlantic Provinces and has appeared on both the Maritime and National CBC. He is active as an adjudicator and clinician.
