Matthew Rowsell, trombone
2009 Suzanne Brenton Award winner

Born and raised in Newfoundland, Matthew Rowsell began his trombone studies in the public school system in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island in May, 2009 with a Bachelor of Music, where he studied with Gregory Irvine and Dale Sorensen.

Mr. Rowsell has recently been the recipient of a number of awards and honours including the Queens County Music Festival Senior Rose Bowl at the 2009 festival, first place in the brass class at the 2007 National Music Festival, and he is also a two-time winner of the UPEI Music Performance Competition. As well, Matthew was Principal Trombonist in the 2006 National Youth Band Of Canada, and Principal Trombonist in the UPEI Wind Symphony for the duration of his studies at the University of Prince Edward Island. In the Fall of 2006, he was soloist with the UPEI Wind Symphony, where he performed Morceau Symphonique by Alexandre Guilmant.

Matthew currently studies with full tuition at Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a Master of Music in Performance.
