Paul Bernard, guitar

Paul Bernard, born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, is a graduate of the Royal College of Music in London, England in guitar performance and pedagogue. He subsequently performed throughout England, Holland, U.S.A. and Canada receiving much critical acclaim.

Mr. Bernard has made several recordings for USA Public Broadcasting Systems and for CBC Radio and Television. Mr. Bernard already has six albums, four of which have won multiple awards.

Paul's first solo album: "Spanish Guitar", earned him a reputation for fluidity and grace in playing modern classical Spanish music. Reviewers acclaimed it as "a pleasing artistic triumph". His musical agility and ease of playing confirms his position as an acknowledged master of the guitar.

In "Majorca", Paul's second solo album, we hear his great technical skill combined with his ability to use the richness of the many tonal colors of the classical guitar.

Paul also has much experience playing with pianists, singers, string quartets, flutist and other guitarists. He has recorded an ensemble album: "The Paganinis at Home", with members of New York's "Philharmonia Virtuosi" featuring violin, viola, cello and guitar.

Mr. Bernard is founder and composer for the five-time award-winning instrumental group, Paul Bernard and Este Mundo.

Paul's teaching experience includes private teaching in Toronto, Montreal, London, England, University of PEI and Mount Allison University. He has recently opened "The Paul Bernard Guitar Studio" in Charlottetown.

No stranger to the concert stage, this will be the fifth concerto Paul has played with full orchestra accompaniment.

This classical guitarist is described by New York Philharmonic resident composer/conductor David Amram as an "artist of major stature" whose concerts are remembered as "one of the most artistically rewarding experiences ever had", performed by an artist who "mesmerized his audience."
